Friday Favorites 10.7.22

Lately one of favorite things in the land of the interwebs has been browsing bookstagram (IE: people just posting about their favorites books)– I love to see what other people are reading and adding them to my to be read list. This time of year I also get the urge to bake and to get crafty so I ove seeing all the seasonal recipes as we enter fall. I am also slowly switching to my fall classical or dark academia playlist and recently found a Mabon playlist on spotify.  (you might sense a theme here)  I love switching things up with the seasons and I like seeing what is out there in the world– not to compare myself but to get some information. LAtely, I have been using social media to find my best of this seasons: books, food, music, skincare, recipes. Almost like the hot and not list, expect this is all about what’s hot.  I also love sharing what I find so I thought I would bring back my Friday Favorites series. This is something I used to do on my old website and blog and it was a fun way to share what I was obsessing over lately.  I might bring it back once a month, or maybe even once week, we’ll see how often my favorites shift.

I would LOVE to hear what your favorite things are right now:

Here are a few of my favorite things:

Reading: The Book of Night By Holly Black I just started this and I am so stoked to read-- a witchy read based in the Berkshires:) how fitting for spooky season in my new home

Tea: Meditative Mind by Atticus Teahouse in Park City, UT. Chris and I found Atticus Teahouse last March when we went skiing in Park City on our way out and we have LOVED the tea ever since. Meditative Mind is a beautiful jasmine green tea that is calming yet energizing.

Skin: As the seasons change, what our body needs changes, even our skin. Years ago, I had a ayurvedic consultation and they recommended I switch from fractionated coconut oil in the spring/summer to sesame oil for fall/winter for my moisturizer. It's been a game changer for me-- feels super nourishing and supportive. I add cypress essential oil and the blend Balance from Doterra for an ultra grounding and lymphatic supportive blend.

Nourishment: Soups, soups and more soups. Chris has started to make homemade bone broth more and more. I'm thinking I should get him to write down the recipe. Last night he made a chicken tortilla soup that was LEGIT amazing!

Rituals: Something new I learned at the Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership was the power of a sit spot or a nature meditation. A sit spot is a place outdoors in nature that you can visit every day or most days and just sit and observe the world go by. It doesn’t need to be in your backyard but can be someplace easily accessible so you can sit at different times of the year and days. During my training, we sat everyday for 30-40 minutes and boy was it magical.  I am trying to find a spot in my own yard to be my sacred sit spot. It’s a practice that opened my eyes to the magic around me– I feel a whole blog post coming on this shortly.

Listening: Lately, I have been all about the fall music.  I found a Mabon themed playlist that gives me fierce and fiery feminie vibes and I dove into the Dark Academia Playlist and Fall Classical Playlist. I love listening to classical music while I am writing or answering emails.

Bath: I have been so, so grateful to even have a bath tub to soak in. I didn't use it a ton this summer but this Fall and Winter, I can already feel it calling my name. I recently bought Village Naturals Therapy Mineral Bath Soak Variety Set 3 Pack - Restless Nights, Aches & Pain, Stress & Tension. I think Muscle Relief is my favorite followed by Aches and Pains. Take a bath and boom, best night sleep.

Movement: Everything twists and outer hips have been calling my name lately-- especially after sitting on a stump for 10 days. I love figure four twists, spinal somatic twists, spinal twists and thread the needle.

Any categories I am missing? I had so much fun writing this up and would LOVE to hear some of your favorite things this October.
