Friday Favorites 10.28.22

It's Friday and I am back for my next Friday Favorites. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, it's been really nice to dive into what brings me joy and hear from others what brings them joy. In fact, enjoying the little things and finding joy in the mundane is pretty important value at your house.

When Chris and I met, on a dating app, he had Rule #32 Enjoy The Little Things (yes from Zombieland) and I loved that. It's been something he has embodied so well over the years and something I have learned and come to value thanks to him.

Life can be tough and stressful and exhausting at times and STILL, there can be beautiful things and joy. If I am ever low on joy, I try to get outside and just stare in wonderment at the every changing nature of the world around me. I also try to learn HARD into all things that I am loving lately or try to get inspired from others ideas.

Here are a few of my favorite things:

Reading: Lullaby for Witches By Hester Fox— I finally started using my Lee Library card instead of buying books. I LOVE books and I LOVE buying books but I also recognize that I have a finite amount of space in my home and also, spending all my money on books isn't practical. So far, I am so intrigued by Lullaby for Witches. It's a witchy, historical story taking place in MA. lots of my favorite things

Tea: I've been all about green tea lately. As a part of my gut healing protocol from The Gut Fix and Gut Personal, I was recommended to drink green tea once a day. i can honestly say that I crave it most days and it is great to sip first thing on a chilly morning or as my midday afternoon break.

Skin: I recently finished up the last of Calenda infused Body Oil. Each year I use calendula from our garden (one of my favorite herbs/plants) and I let it infuse in jojoba oil or almond oil (usually a thicker oil). I do a longer infusions (and honestly probably leave it too long because I forget) and then strain out the calendula afterward. I will write up my recipe soon. Sometimes I had rose petals or lilacs for added benefits.

Nourishment: I've been really getting into breakfast these days and warm breakfasts to boot. in the spring, summer and early fall, I am smoothie girl through and through, especially when teaching yoga first thing in the AM. Lately, I have been craving eggs, sausage and avocado. It's been SO nice to have a big breakfast every morning and makes my body feel really nourished. Also super helpful as I enter a new phase of movement.

Rituals: I have been getting back into my Sauna more lately as the weather gets cooler and it has been amazing. Infrared Saunas have been an integral part of my healing journey and has really helped me deal with inflammation and lymphatic system sluggishness. I currently have higher dose sauna blanket that is great for small spaces but dream of an outdoor sauna on our property.

Listening: I recently found someone on Spotify who makes a playlist for each of the Celebrations on the Wheel of the Year and I am obsessed. Lately, I have been listening the Samhain one. It's definitely different but it's another way I get in touch with the season I am in. I also made a new yoga flow playlist last week, "October Soul Speaks" and a new yoga sculpt playlist, "Spooky Sculpt".

Bath: Epsom Salt, Epsom Salt and more Epsom Salt. I'll be honest I am still loving the ones I mentioned last time and last bath I took, I mixed all three together for a heavenly scent and relaxing bath. I am definitely looking for more luxurious bath inspo for the winter season AND I would love to find some herbal bath soaks from a small business— have any recs? let me know!

Movement: I have been loving getting slowly but surely back into strength training. I love weight lifting but took a couple of months off with the move. My body needed the break but I am excited to get started. I have started slow with 30 minute sessions and lower weights and will be building up each week. I am even starting my own Ski Prep Program with all my participants on November 7th.
