What is mindful Outdoor Experience?

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I dove into the Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership in Fall of 2023 and learned A LOT. to be honest, I've taken my time to integrate it into my work here, at Live Good, Feel Good. A huge piece of this work was first getting comfortable with forest and land around me... but that is a story for another day.

As spring beings to open up, I am excited to announce I will be hosting some more outdoor events. All the details will be announced soon but I wanted to share a little more behind the scenes look at one of my new offerings: Mindful Outdoor Experience.

This is something I learned at Kripalu that is really applicable to the work I do with my clients. I personally have found so much healing from Mother Nature and being outdoors and I have shared this love with my clients over the past few years. A Mindful outdoor experience is a beautiful way to share this healing in group and in community.

So What is a mindful outdoor experience?

It is a chance to slow down and experience nature fully and completely mind, body and soul. It's a chance to use all your senses to be fully immersed in an experience of mindfulness and movement while in Mother Nature (ALL OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!!!). Even better it's done in community while also spending time alone. The best of both worlds.

A mindful outdoor experience is a cross between a nature walk, a moving meditation and a group healing experience.

Some things you can expect at a Mindful Outdoor Experience:

  1. An introduction to the natural space around you: IT's important to acknowledge the land you stand on and to fully know where you are. It's also important to acknowledge your fellow community members and guides.

  2. Warm ups: This is a moving meditation of sorts. We spend some time preparing the body to safely walk and experience the world around us.

  3. Mindful Breathing & Grounding & Gratitude: Together we take some time to slow down our bodies and breath and fully arrive into the experience together. You might be taken through a grounding meditation or a guided breathwork. Whatever it is, you can expect to feel calmer and more present in your body and mind.

  4. Mindful Walking: WE spend time walking through the chosen environment and REALLY experiencing it. Depending on the location, there might be different practices of experiences at this time.

  5. Tap into your senses: your 5 senses are SO powerful at creating presence in the moment. We use a variety of sense to tap deeper into a mindfulness experience.

  6. Nature Meditations: You get some solo time to sit and experience the world around you.

  7. Community gathering: We close with a chance to reflect and share with your community members. Sharing is always optional but always welcome.

A mindful outdoor experience is really a great way to practice mindfulness in Mother Nature. I find it really helpful for those who have overactive minds and struggle with meditation (ahem— me!) There is something about being outdoors that just settles the mind and body and helps me connect deeper into the moment.
